Sir,—"whereforth thus saith the Lord God: Behold, I am against your pillows, wherewith ye there hunt the souls to make them fly, and I will tear them from your arms, and will let the souls go, even the souls that ye hunt to make them fly" (Ezekiel xiii., 20).

How one can hunt souls with pillows and make them fly is a piece of hypermental gymnastics quite beyond my powers, and if any reader of the "A.J." can inform me on the subject I shall be very much obliged.

In my time I have hunted with the pillow, but that was in my early schooldays, which reminds me of one very famous hunt, deeply impressed on my brain, and other parts of my anatomy. It happened thus. One evening one of the boys had left our dormitory for some purpose or other, when there was a general exclamation of, "Pillows!" I seized mine, upon which my youthful head was wont to repose (and which, curiously enough, had nothing whatever to do with armholes) and crept to the door. A few minutes after the handle turned, and the door opened. I struck out wildly, a candle flew into the air (but no soul), a scream, a body obliquely posed, and a thud. And, verily, I say unto you, lo and behold, it was the MATRON.—

Yours truly,
