In the centre [of one of her paintings for the Thoth Tarot] there is a round space. In paint how does one convey a round empty space. In thought it is full of gentle sounds like signs and scent & shining colour but it surrounds the central object & by surrounding I mean in front & behind & at the sides. There must be a line to convey it. I have worked it out in a spiral generated from a pentagon which is the right proportion for my picture but that can only be conveyed vertically & the picture wants it horizontally, & to surround the centre. Now a pentagonal spiral in perspective doesn't show unless you tip it & it must really be a spiral in that space for it emrinates [sic] from the centre in 5 twirls.
